HB5412 SFA GRADY #2 3-14

Hager  7871

Senator Grady moved to amend the bill on page 3, after line, 34 by inserting the following:

ARTICLE 5. COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION.

§18-5-55.  Protection of vocational education agriculture programs.

(a) The Legislature finds that agriculture offers many benefits to the state and its individual citizens such as enhanced self-sufficiency, additional food security, contributions to the economy, and the enjoyment and satisfaction that can be experienced from various forms of agriculture.

(b) Each county board shall make a determination for each public high school in the county as to whether the students enrolled in the school have sufficient interest in a vocational education agriculture program to establish such a program. If the county board determines that sufficient interest does exist at a public high school, the program shall be offered to all students.

(c) No vocational education agriculture program at any public school may be terminated unless the enrollment is the lowest enrollment of all vocational education programs at the school. If a vocational education agriculture program at a public school is terminated, the county school district over the school shall submit a report to the Legislative Oversight Commission on Education Accountability explaining the reasoning for terminating its program.
